Two houses, now flats. c1865. Brick with painted stone or
stucco dressings. Slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attics and basement. Each house 2
bays. The left-hand bay of each house has a canted bay window
of 2 storeys plus basement, with sashed windows and a cornice.
The right-hand 1st floor window of each house is sashed
without glazing bars and has a segmental rubbed brick arch.
The 2nd floor windows have similar arches and are sashed with
4 over 4 panes. Both houses have C20 flat-roofed attic
dormers: No.1 has 2 dormers and No.2 has one wide dormer. The
doorways have 4-panel doors, overlights with segmental heads,
and hoods carried on elaborate brackets. No.1 has a small sash
without glazing bars to the left of the doorway. Set back to
the left is a further bay which has a carriage entrance with
segmental arch, and 1st and 2nd floor windows which match
those of the main house. Modillion gutter cornice. Chimneys to
left of each house.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: in front of each house there are iron
area railings, with gates to cellar steps.
Nos 1-22 Bootham Terrace form an unusually complete row of
speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860
and 1870 to an interesting variety of designs.
