Hipswell Mill and Millhouse

Corn mill and attached millhouse. Late C18, altered mid C19. Coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with ashlar coped gables and 2 brick gable stacks. 2 storey. North front has mill to right and millhouse to left. Mill has plank door to left with boarded 2-light, glazing bar sliding sash to right and beyond single storey lean-to with plank door. Above another boarded sliding sash. To left millhouse has C20 doorway to right and boarded 2-light glazing bar sliding sash to left with single similar window above. Right return has single stable doorway at upper floor level. Rear south front has single plank door to mill under timber lintel. Millhouse has boarded sliding sash with tiny window to left, above 2 further boarded windows. Rear wing has been heightened and has flat roof. INTERIOR. Mill has large iron water wheel housed in rear wing, with remaining cast iron machinery at ground level with plank partition and doors. Above 2 millstones let into grindery floor. This mill has a complete set of corn milling machinery.
