Large farmhouse. Late C16-early C17 core, rebuilt in C18 and refurbished in mid
C19. Plastered cob, rubble and brick; rubble and brick stacks, one with Beer
stone ashlar dressings, topped with C19 brick; thatched roof. 4-room main range
facing south. Central staircase plan, end stacks and rear lateral stacks to middle
rooms. C17 block at right angles behind right (east) end and C18 kitchen block at
right angles behind left (west) end. 2 storeys. Symmetrical mid C19 5-window
front. Central 6-panel door (the upper 2 glazed), panelled reveals and doorcase
with panelled pilasters, sunken quatrefoils at either end of frieze and moulded
entablature. Door flanked by wide sashes with margin panes, the rest are narrow
12-pane sashes. Simple moulded eaves cornice. Roof is hipped each end although
low roof carried over on left side to gable on end stack. The projecting left
(west) end stack of exposed rock-faced snecked mudstone and volcanic stone with
Beer stone quoins. Left rear lateral stack has moulded brick cornice to cap of
chimney shaft. The rear east wing includes a late C16-early C17 4-light oak window
with ovolo-moulded mullions and a late C17 2-light flat-faced mullion window.
Interior has mainly mid C19 fittings and roof of all 3 wings has mid C19 king post
trusses. Early features probably survive.
