The building is the former United Free Methodist Church which was built in Market Street in 1858 and closed in 1954. It then became the Wakefield sorting office of the Post Office until 1981, when the business moved to a new building on Ings Road. The Foundation Nightclub opened in 1997.The Foundation Nightclub has a large pre-bar called Grand Central, as part of the Foundation building. With a capacity of 1400, it is one of the largest club, bar and lounge complexes in Wakefield.
