Pair of houses with shops; now shops and restaurant. Mid C19
with later C19 alteration and extension; further C20
alteration, including shopfronts.
MATERIALS: stucco front with moulded cornice beneath partly
balustraded parapet masking slate mansard roof with rendered
brick stack; extension of red brick in Flemish bond with first
floor display window framed in cast-iron, dressings of buff
faience and slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 4-storey, 3-window front with 3-storey, 1-bay
extension to left. First floor windows to No.35 are 2- and
3-light 4-pane casements beneath pediments on acanthus
consoles. First floor window to No.37 continued over extension
has 3 pairs of large pane casements beneath divided overlights
and cambered transoms with foliate spandrels, broad fascia and
cornice. Original second floor windows are 4- and 12-pane
sashes, in lugged architraves, those to No.37 shortened by
altered window below: on third floor windows are inset squat
9-pane sashes with cambered heads and moulded bracketed sills
continued as sill band. Second floor of extension has 2-light
large pane casement window with louvred overlight, between
moulded foliate panels, framed in squat rusticated Composite
pilasters; moulded cornice over Greek key frieze stepped up
over window to scrolled pediment broken by triple-feather
finial.
