House. Built c1830 for John Roper (wine merchant). Gault brick
with painted stone dressings. Hipped slate roof.
EXTERIOR: main block symmetrical, of 2 storeys and 3 bays. The
windows are sashed without glazing bars and have rubbed brick
flat arches. There is a 1st floor sill band. The central bay
is bowed and has a curved window on the 1st floor. On the
ground floor of the bow there is an open Tuscan porch, with 2
columns, pilaster responds, and a curved entablature with
modillioned cornice. The divided door has 2 glazed panels over
2 flush panels, a divided overlight, and a rubbed brick flat
arch. The gutter cornice is mutuled. Ridge chimneys to left
and right of centre.
