GV II

One of three blocks of almshouses. 1925-31. By Ward and
Leckenby. Orange brick in English bond with dressings and
eaves cornice of moulded stone; stone coped tiled roof with
brick and stone cornice stacks. Each house has central
entrance and small rear service wing.
EXTERIOR: 1-storey, 9-bay range, the centre bay having gabled
first floor. Doorway in centre is quoined with shallow arched
head and moulded spandrels beneath stepped lintel: above is
commemorative panel. The other doorways are similar without
panel. Windows flanking centre and at outer ends are canted
5-light bays with stone sills, mullions and coped parapets.
Intermediate windows are 3-light casements in stone surrounds.
First floor window is 3-light oriel in gable surmounted by
finial.
