Hotel, now public house. Probably c1840; altered. Painted
roughcast render with sandstone dressings, slate roof with
rendered chimneys. L-plan on corner site.
EXTERIOR: 3 storey 2-window gabled faced with 2-storey
2-window side wing to the right; with a painted plinth and
painted quoining. The taller gabled portion has 3 windows at
ground floor with moulded architraves and altered glazing, 2
sashed windows on each upper floor with matching architraves,
those at 1st floor 16-paned and those above short 6-paned, a
long signboard between these floors lettered "VICTORIA HOTEL"
and a draped roundel in the gable. The wing to the right has 3
short windows at ground floor with altered glazing and two
16-pane sashes above, all with moulded architraves like the
others, flanked by square-headed doorways with pilaster jambs
and pediments on consoles.
The left return (to Bath Street), a 3-window range with a
one-window extension to the rear, has a doorway to the 2nd bay
like those at the front but altered as a window, and windows
like those at the front, including a 16-pane sash to the right
and a 9-pane sash to the left at 1st floor, and three 6-pane
sashes at 2nd floor (the others with altered glazing). Large
multiple-flue ridge chimney at junction with extension.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with No.30 (Royal Hotel), Bath Street (qv) on
opposite corner.
