House, forming part of terraced row; with attached verandah.
c1826-30; altered. Painted stucco, slate roof with rendered
chimneys to left and right. Double-depth double-fronted plan
with back extension.
2 storeys and 3 windows, symmetrical; moulded gutter cornice.
3-bay verandah with elegant and unusually wide cast-iron
standards of enriched geometrical open-work including capitals
with Ionic volutes, a simple moulded gutter cornice and roof
now mostly felted. The ground floor has a square-headed
doorway with moulded architrave, panelled door and plain
overlight, flanked by large canted bay windows with 4-pane
sashed glazing; the 1st floor windows are sashed without
glazing bars, and each has a small set-in fretted canopy.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Adjoins No.16 to the right (qv) and No.18 to the left (qv).
All the listed buildings in Marine Crescent, together with
those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn and Marine
Terrace, form a group in the Waterloo Conservation Area of
Crosby.
