Pair of cottages. c1860, altered C20. Coursed squared
gritstone, slate roof. Gothic Revival style. One and a half
storeys, 3 bays, the central bay gabled. Long and short ashlar
quoins. Facade to roadway has cross-frame windows in
rusticated surrounds, windows to No.2 altered. Arched
entrances in left and right returns with a small stone roofed
bay window and 2 light window in gable above. Elaborate eaves
and roof detailing includes deep carved wooden eaves brackets,
fish-scale slates, crested ridge tiles and 2 large 4-flue
corniced ridge stacks, some with tall battlemented chimney
pots.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
One of a group of 4 pairs of cottages built on a narrow strip
field shown on the 1850 Ordnance Survey map; the 1872
Directory indicates that Joseph Sunderland, builder lived at
No.1 and Thomas Horsfall, woollen printer at No.2.
