Grammar school, now 2 houses. Early C19 with earlier origins.
Timber-framed and rendered with C20 pargeted panels and hipped
slate roof with 4 stacks.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 7-window range. Front elevation has
12-pane sash windows, each with moulded surrounds, on 1st
floor. Ground floor has central wide doorcase with pilasters
and hood on brackets to door of 6 raised-and-fielded panels
and very narrow sidelights with panels beneath; 6 similar sash
windows on ground floor and 2 simple doorcases, one with door
of 6 raised-and-fielded panels and the other to a slated
lean-to at south-east end.
North-west flank has black weatherboarded ground floor, as
does ground floor of rear elevation. This garden elevation has
five 12-pane sash windows and 2 smaller 16-pane sash windows
on 1st floor. On the ground floor there are two 12-pane sash
windows, some later openings and a boldly projecting
semicircular bow window, with cornice to flat roof, small
panes and thin dividing pilasters.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORY: originally the Grammar School endowed in 1608 by
Ralph Breeder.
