GV II

House. c1864 with later extensions to rear (roadside) and late
C20 restoration. Ashlar garden front, remainder brick, slate
roof. L-plan with rear wing in 1:6 English garden wall bond.
2 storeys over basement, 3 windows wide. 4 bull-nosed stone
steps to central 4-panelled door, top 2 glazed with overlight
in stone pilastered surround with cornice and entablature.
4-pane sash windows, frames renewed, stone sills. Hipped roof
with end stacks of white brick with dentilled cornice.
INTERIOR: narrow entrance hall with staircase of 2 straight
flights, turned newels, ramped handrail. Front rooms have
contemporary-style fireplaces in white marble; shutters and
panelled window reveals to front right. Former kitchen rear
right has original cupboards, panelled doors. Basement: below
the kitchen a basement kitchen/scullery with probably original
cast-iron range with maker's name: 'HEAPS & ROBINSON LEEDS'.
Flanking corner set pots and slop stone below the basement
window.
Owners' deeds suggest originally owned by the Sagar family of
Red Hall, Shadwell. Included for group value.
