Church school and almshouses. c1830, altered C20. By Thomas
Taylor. For Stephen Nicholson of Roundhay Park. Coursed
squared gritstone, ashlar details, slate roofs. In Tudor
style. Central school block flanked by long 10-bay ranges of
single-storey almshouses.
School with moulded coping to gable ends, central gabled porch
with pointed arched doorway, base of crocketed finial at apex
of gable; at each side are 2 large 2-light mullion and transom
windows with dripmoulds. Flanking this central school block
are 10-bay ranges of low single-storey almshouses with
projecting gabled end bays with large ornate barge-boards with
pendants, wide eaves and shallow square bay window with coved
cornice. Small 2-light mullioned windows and doorways with
dripmoulds, plank doors with cover moulds and decorative
wrought-iron hinges. Stone chimneys, shafts removed.
