Shops and offices. 1888. By Lawrence Bright of Nottingham for
H & M Lewis. Altered late C20. Red brick with ashlar dressings
and gabled and hipped slate roofs with 2 gable and single
ridge stacks.
Cornice and sham blocking course to second floor, moulded
brick eaves. Windows are mainly plain sashes with shaped
lintels, those to the second floor with round-arched heads and
keystones. 3 storeys plus attics; 3 x 4 windows. Corner site
with rounded corner bay, 3 windows.
Corner bay has on the ground floor a late C20 shopfront with
polished stone facing, and to left a single storey addition
with 2 plate glass windows. Above, a canted bay window, 2
storeys, 4 lights, with stone mullions. On each side, a single
sash, and between floors, recessed panels with shaped lintels.
Attics have 3 plain sashes. Right return has pairs of plain
sashes on each floor. To right, a block, 3 bays with an ashlar
entrance bay to left. Round-arched doorway with polychrome
head and shafts, glazed double doors and fanlight. To right, 2
late C20 shop windows. Above, 2 sashes on each floor, flanked
by canted bay windows, 4 lights. Left window 3 storeys, with
attic window above, right window 2 storeys. Attics above 2
right bays have continuous glazing.
