Owlerton War Memorial Hall

War memorial hall. Dated 1925, with late C20 alterations. Red
brick with terracotta dressings and gabled and hipped slate
roof topped with a louvred square turret with pyramidal lead
roof.
EXTERIOR: plinth. Single storey plus tower; 3 x 5 windows.
Coped main gable has projecting central bay flanked by
panelled pilasters with quoins, containing a segment-arched
4-light cross casement with terracotta mullions. On either
side, a small plain sash with moulded surround and pediment.
Above the window, raised panel with the name of the building
in raised lettering. Above again, a shouldered gabled
pediment.
Single storey porch has projecting doorcase with panelled
terracotta quoins, dentilled cornice and segmental pediment
with shaped blocking course. Moulded and ornamented
round-arched doorway with keystone cartouche and recessed
double doors. To left, a canted corridor with blocking course
and 2 single light windows, late C20, with terracotta
surrounds.
To right, square clock tower, 3 stages, with angle pilasters
and quoins, corner shafts, plinth, and moulded coped parapet
with corner pedestals and a segmental pediment and keystone on
each side. Lower stage has a terracotta relief panel under a
dentilled cornice, with an inscribed bronze plaque below it.
Middle stage has a single window on 3 sides. Upper stage has a
recessed panel on each side, with dentilled head and round
shafted blind balustrade below. Front panel has a central
clock, side panels have blank roundels.
Hall has bays divided by recesses housing downpipes, and
stepped terracotta coping. In each bay, a segment-headed
3-light cross casement with double transoms and terracotta
lintel.
