ARTHINGTON ARTHINGTON LANE
SE 24 SE
LS 21 (south side)
6/80 Crag View and
22.11.1966 Ivy Cottage
(formerly listed as
"Home View Garage")
GV II

Pair of cottages, built as eye-catcher. C19. Coursed squared sandstone with
quoins, stone slate roof. Double-depth 2-unit plan plus set-back side wings.
Symmetrical composition of which the principal element is the house
(Crag View) of 2 storeys and 2 bays, almost symmetrical, with 2 bands between
floors (carried across the wings), recessed central door, 2 stepped triple-
light mullioned windows on each floor, and chimneys on the ridge and at the
left gable, coping to the right-hand gable. The wings are each single-
storeyed with the appearance of 2 storeys, and of 2 bays, the outer bays
breaking forwards slightly, with a doorway to the set-back inner bay (that on
the left altered as a window), a sashed window at ground floor of the outer
bay (that on the right with altered glazing); and walls carried up to
1st floor as screens, the inner bays having a round-headed arch and pierced
embattled parapet and the outer a pierced quatrefoil and pierced triangle
like a pediment; the units thus screened have mono-pitched roofs.
