6/81 Nos. 5 to 10
- (consec.)
GV II
Row of 6 cottages. Early to mid C19, extended and altered. Coursed squared
sandstone with quoins and dressings of the same, Welsh slate roof.
Rectangular double-depth plan. Two storeys, and all single-fronted (except
No. 5 at right hand end: see below), originally symmetrical, with the centre
pair and the outer ends projecting slightly; 1st floor band; ground floor has
doorways and windows with plain surrounds (mostly 4-pane sashes, but altered
glazing in Nos. 5 and 10); at 1st floor each has a wide recessed unfinished
"arch" dying into the eaves, these with plain surrounds and impost bands, and
each containing a sashed window, those in the projected bays round-headed,
with impost bands continuous with those of the surrounding "arches". At the
right-hand end No. 5 has been enlarged by the addition of a matching bay, the
former doorway in the original portion replaced by a single matching window.
Rear of less interest, but has a vertical joint to the addition.
