1/10002 Rustic Bridge

Ornamental bridge. Mid C18, one of series of garden features built for Sir Robert
Throckmorton of Weston Park by a Mr John Huggins "for the purpose of keeping up a piece
of water in the Park". Coursed stone rubble bridge with round-headed arch with long
embankments on either side, forming a path over a brook. A favourite haunt of the poet
Cowper, who lived nearby at Cowper's house between 1786 and 1795. Illustrated in
"Cowper". printed byJ Swan in 1803 and "The loved haunts of Cowper" published by
Thomas Wright in London in 1894.
