Detached house. Dated 1838 (datestone to rear 'RF 1838'). Ashlar (smooth to
front, tooled to other elevations); Westmoreland slate hipped roof. Double-
fronted, double-depth plan with rear-central stairs, paired end stacks; 2
storeys with single-storeyed service range to rear. Deeply overhanging eaves
and chamfered plinth throughout. Front: symmetrical 3-window range; canted bays
with 4:8:4-pane hornless sashes, those to the sides with margin panes. Doorway
with moulded surround and simple stone canopy on consoles, deep reveals, and
depressed-panelled door and overlight. 1st floor windows all with 12-pane
hornless sashes and plain surrounds stone canopies on consoles that to the
centre in the form of a swan-necked pediment. 1st floor sill band returns to
side elevations. Double external side stacks join at 1st floor window arch
level and are contained under eaves pediment with central lunette. Clustered
shaft on plinth. Blank windows to right-hand end; sashes to left, with C19
lean-to conservatory. Rear windows sashed with louvred shutters. Simple
service wing to rear, coursed rubble, ashlar window and door surrounds, brick
ridge stack. Interior (not inspected) understood to contain open-well stair
with curved rail, fire-surrounds and contemporary doors, all of which survived a
fire of 1989.
