House in row with cottage attached to left. Mid C16. Square-
panelled timber-framing with tension bracing, herringbone brick
nogging, dressed stone plinth with short buttresses, stone slate
roof with diagonally-set brick stacks. Two-storey and attic, 4-
window. Eight-panelled door and multi-paned fixed window to right
beneath C19 slated canopy, 3-light leaded casement to right,
ribbed door with board hood to left and pair of 2-light leaded
casements to left. First floor has three 2-light casements to
left, timber-framed gabled dormer to right with 3-light first floor
casement and small attic casement. Cottage to left is rubble
stone, late C19 with ribbed door and 3-light casement, 3-light
leaded casement to gabled dormer, hipped roof with large ashlar
grouped stack. Rear has timber-framed rear wing to left with C20
casements, glazed door and C20 hipped dormer, main range to right
has C20 glazed door, 3-light wood mullioned casement, 3-light and
2-light casement and blocked 4-light mullioned casement. Former
stair turret in angle with wing has single-light casements. Short
C19 rubble stone wing to rear of cottage with blocked doorway and
segmental-headed casements.
Interior: Ground floor has moulded Tudor-arched fireplace with
shield-filled spandrels, deep chamfered beams with stepped stops
in room to right of entrance, timber-framed partition with cyma-
moulded doorway from this room to rear parlour wing. Parlour has
open fireplace with flat chamfered lintel on stone jambs, deep
chamfered beams. Room to south, now kitchen has large open
fireplace with plain lintel on brick jambs. Stairs no longer in
stair turret; C20 inserted stairs to right of entrance. First
floor has timber-framed partitions, some retain wattle and daub
panels, five good doors with 9 moulded panels in cyma-moulded
surrounds with stops. north bedroom has wainscot panelling to
partition of attic stairs, Tudor-arched stone fireplace. Room over
parlour has fireplace with cambered wooden lintel. Six-bay
original roof over main range with collar and tie-beam trusses,
south truss with king strut, 2 south bays divided from rest by
closed truss, curved windbracing with chamfered soffits to purlin
and ridge. Wing has 3-bay roof.
