Provenden Mill. Probably circa 1850-1860. Red brick with red brick window dressings.
Plain tiled roof with main range aligned east-west and cross-gable to east, facing
north with weatherboarded gabled lucarne and hipped to south. 3 storeys with attic
in gable. Regular fenestration of two windows to street, segment-headed windows
with cast-iron glazing. Single boarded door on first floor of north side. Further
door to right on ground-floor. Interior: Although the engine and boiler have been
removed this mill remains a remarkably complete Provenden Mill of the late C19/early
C20. Machinery includes complete line-shafting up to the fly wheel, used to power
various machines on the first floor including a canary seed polisher, an oat roller,
various kibblers a powered mixer, pea polisher and a hoist. The floor above has
various split-level garners for storing bulk grain. There is also a semi-automatic
sack filler and weighing machine.
