5/177 Manor Farmhouse
GV II
Farmhouse. Probably late Medieval, altered C17 and C19. Random
rubble stone, hipped tiled roof with hip to left, axial brick
stack. Through passage to rear of stack. Two-storey, 2-window
west front. Six-panelled door in gabled stone porch lean-to
extension and two 9-pane bottom-hinged windows to left, C20
tripartite window to right. First floor has 2-light casement to
left, 3-light ovolo-mullioned casement to right. Wing to right has
large stone stack with offsets, C20 casements, coped verge. Right
return has C20 replacement casements, one 2-light C16 window with
Tudor-arched chamfered lights, first floor with C20 casements, is
English bond brick. Rear has C20 casements.
Interior: through passage with badly worn moulded stone pointed
doorway to left, leading to room used for storage, probably former
services. Former 'hall' and parlour fireplaces blocked, very deep
chamfered beams retained, some boxed-in. Some good joinery
including doors with 2 fielded panels. First floor not accessible
at time of survey (January 1987), but a good roof is likely in this
house. Plan and survival of pointed door to services suggests a
Medieval house, but no further evidence available.
