Late Cl8 L plan with return block to main gates of St Mary's Churchyard. The
corner is canted. 2 storeys and attic, red brick. Mansard slate roof. 12
windows to 1st floor, 10 on ground floor, recessed, sash, glazing bars intact,
block sills. 4 windows to right hand on 1st floor and 3 to right on ground
floor, including those on corner and return front, have keystones. Main entrance
is 2nd bay to left of corner. Recessed door with central light, 2 upper panels
moulded, 2 lower panels flush, set in architrave surround under stone Doric
porch of 2 columns, wall pilasters and entablature. Secondary entrance on
return front, recessed door of 2 moulded panels rest glazed, rectangular fanlight,
flat brick arch and keystone as with windows. At corner of hotel a wrought
iron sign bracket with scroll ornament.
Adjoining to north 2 stable blocks contemporary with hotel, though the left
hand one is possibly slightly later. The right hand block is of 2 storeys
red brick, similar general design with mansard slate roof and stone band between
storeys. 4 tall recessed sashes, glazing bars intact, to 1st floor. Ground
floor has 2 elliptical arched stable entries, one blocked with window inserted,
and 3 small arched windows, 2 flanking, one central, all with keystones.
The left hand stable block is also of 2 storeys red brick but has a full width
gabled front. 2 recessed sash windows, glazing bars intact, segmental brick
arches with keystones. Elliptical arched stable entry also with keystone.

The Castle Hotel with No 48 and Brownstone House form an important group at
the south end of New Park Street.
