House and adjoining cottage, the Rising Sun Inn until circa 1870. Early C18.
Plastered cob on rubble footings, rubble stacks topped with C19 brick; thatched roof.
4-room plan building facing south with axial stacks, one between left (western) end
room and left of centre room and second serving right (east) of centre room. Main
door left of centre makes lobby entry plan and secondary door to cottage at right
end. Outshots to rear. 2 storeys. Overall 4-window front of late C19 horned 16-
pane sashes containing some original crown glass panes. Main door right of centre
has C19 double 3-panelled doors and C18 cob or rubble slate-roofed and gabled porch
which has round-headed outer arch including a sort of downward dimple at the apex.
Secondary cottage door at right end has C20 slate-roofed and gabled porch. Roof is
hipped each end.
Interior has C18 roughly finished crossbeams and rubble fireplaces with plain oak
lintels. Roof of C18 A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars and X-apexes
seating the ridge. Some of sashes have late C19 panelled shutters which fold into
internal reveals.
