House, originally 2 cottages. Late C17, modernised and partly rebuilt circa 1970.
Plastered cob on rubble footings, rebuilt partly with concrete blockwork; rubble
stacks with plastered C20 brick chimney shafts; thatched roof. U-shaped building
comprising parallel 2-room plan main blocks set only circa 2m apart on a north-
west/south-east axis and joined at south-east end, away from the road. Axial stack
serving south-east front room on right former cottage and outer lateral stack serving
both rooms of left (south-western) cottage. 2 storeys. South-east front has 3-
window front of circa 1970 casements, with glazing bars and contemporary door right
of centre and porch gabled and slate-roofed. All windows on other sides are circa
1970 casements, most without glazing bars. Rear door to road side has circa 1970
porch with slate gable roof and weatherboarded side. Roofs have hipped ends.
Interior Left side (south-western) cottage has well-preserved interior. Rear room
(nearest road) is the service room with a C17 chamfered and runout stopped crossbeam,
and front room has contemporary double-ovolo and runout stopped axial beam. Stack
serves corner diagonal fireplaces in both rooms. Both are rubble with curving
pentans and plain oak lintels. The service room includes a bread oven. Roof of A-
frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. Right (north-eastern) range required
nearly complete rebuild circa 1970 and plain oak lintel on fireplace raised at that
time.
