Silage clamp. 1885. Red brick square piers carrying timber roof structure
covered in pantiles. The gable ends of the roof are weatherboarded and also
weatherboarded are the angles between piers and roof. The red brick piers, five
to each side, rise from brick walls covered in cement roof, that to the west
end now pierced. This silage clamp is the earliest silage clamp known to
survive in England ; it was awarded a prize at the Royal Agricultural Society
in 1886, who have descriptions and drawings of it.
