Cottage, formerly 2 cottages. C18. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks
topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatched roof. Now a 2 room cottage facing south-
west set between Nos 7 and 10 Fore Street (q.v.). Rear lateral stack serving right
(south-east) room and end stack in left (north-western) party wall. Latter shared
by adjoining cottage (No. 10). 2 storeys. Symmetrical 2-window front employing a
variety of C19 and C20 casements, only first floor left without glazing bars.
Ground floor right window, a C19 3-light casement with slender glazing bars and
small rectangular panes, some of old glass. Central doorway with C20 gabled and
thatch-roofed porch.
Interior has plain carpentry detail. Cottage was presumably originally 2 one room
cottages forming part of a row of 13 cottages which together form the longest
continuous run of thatch-roofed buildings in Devon and probably the longest run in
England.
