- Bury Bridge
- II
Road bridge over River Yeo. Dated 1830, built by Roger Tyler for the Trustees of
the Exeter Turnpike. Snecked grey mudstone with rusticated ashlar arch and parapet;
granite coping and string course. Single span bridge. Vertical abutments and
segmental arch in which some of the ashlar voussoirs are incised to appear as two
headers for regularity. Plain granite string course at road level ramps slightly to
the centre. Rusticated ashlar parapet carries granite coping which is weathered
slightly on each side. On each end the walls curve outwards a little and ashlar
terminal piers project slightly externally. The inner face of the eastern parapet
includes a granite plaque with concave corners inscribed 'Bury Bridge erected Anno
1830 at the expense of the Trustees of the Exeter Turnpike'. Roger Tyler builder.
The river forms the parish boundary at this point; the southern end of the bridge is
in Morchard Bishop, the northern end in Lapford.
