Former town house of Lansdowne family. Late C18 2 storeys. Painted stucco
on projecting plinth. String at lst floor level with heavy moulded key
pattern enrichment. Moulded stone and stucco cornice over frieze with small
base moulding. Parapet with moulded coping. Slate roof. The central bay
has a slight projection. 5 windows on 1st floor. 4 windows on ground floor
and tall 6-panel central door with panelled door head enriched with small
square plaques containing ovals and linked by swags. The outer ovals are
decorated with trophies, the centre one with intertwined anchors. Radiating
and wreathed arched fanlight of wrought iron with cast lead ornament. The
door under portico of 4 Ionic columns and 4 wall pilasters, swag enrichment
to necking, and entablature with laurel leaf enrichment to frieze, bracketed
cornice and pediment with free swag enrichment in tympanum. Small contemporary
extension to right hand slightly set back, same design but string in place
of cornice, and one window on first floor, 2 panes wide. All first floor
windows have delicate wrought iron balconies with case lead leaf, rosette
and honeysuckle ornament. Balconies are segmental on plan. The house slightly
set back and approached by 2 moulded stone steps. Contemporary wrought
iron rails with small urn standards. Good contemporary scrapers. The interior
has lost many of its original features but the hall retains a Greek Key
frieze and has a panalled coved ceiling with 3 patterae. Garden wall with
arcaded support to terrace at back. The street front is a fine graceful
composition.
