House. Early C19, extended c1840. Limestone ashlar with
lateral stacks and slate hipped roof. Greek Revival style.
Double-depth plan.
2 storeys; 4-window range. Clasping pilaster strips, frieze,
cornice and blocking course; entrance front has a projecting
left-hand wing, the right-hand 3-window section with an open
stone 3-bay loggia on paired fluted Ionic cloumns, the
left-hand entrance covered by a mid C20 glazed porch. Wing has
a ground-floor blind doorway with eared and battered
architrave, paired flanking pilasters and a ground-floor
cornice. Plain windows with 12/9-pane sashes.
Right-hand 3-window return with outer blocked windows beneath
lateral stacks; lower mid C19 left-hand coursed rubble range
set back, with lower rendered SW front. Garden front has a
wide full-height bow.
INTERIOR: details include a marble-flagged entrance hall
divided by a distyle in antis flat arch of fluted Ionic
colums, to a good rear top-lit stone open-well stair with
stick balusters, moulded newels and curtail; cornices,
panelled shutters, 6-panel doors, and stone fire surrounds
with reeded sides and top, and corner roundels.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached brick stable range to the W with
ridge dovecote, and NW garden retaining wall enclosing rear
garden.
