Bank. 1838, enlarged and altered c1878, with late C20
alterations. By Samuel Worth. For the Sheffield & Hallamshire
Bank. Ashlar. Roof not visible. Single coped stone side wall
stack. Neo Classical style.
2 storeys; 9 plus 2 window range. Main block, to right, has
plinth, fluted giant Ionic columns, panelled flanking
pilasters and cornice, with set back balustrade with 3 raised
panelled dies, the central one with a carved crest. 9 plain
sashes, and below, 7 plain sashes, each with a cast-iron
lattice below it. At each end, a square headed doorway with a
relief carved panel above it, the smaller right door with a
cast-iron grille above it. Addition, to left, has 2 plain
sashes under a segmental pediment, framed by panelled
pilasters, with a cornice above all. Below, a round-arched
carriage entrance with keystone, flanked by strapwork
pilasters topped with terms. Cast-iron lattice work double
gates and fanlight grille.
INTERIOR: banking hall has Corinthian pilasters and enriched
coved ceiling. Late C20 opening in the back wall.
