Church. 1909, by Austin and Paley. Glazed red brick, with
sandstone dressings and slate roofs. Arts and Crafts
Perpendicular style. Four-bay nave on north-south axis with
2-bay chancel at north end, east and west aisles with integral
porches at south ends and bell-tower rising from south-west
corner of nave. The gabled south front has stone bands, a tall
canted bay to the gable of the nave with transomed and
traceried windows of 3 and 2 lights, and a checkered stone
parapet; to the left, a slab-like bell tower which presents
the narrow side, with a pilaster, and has a stone top stage
with transomed blind tracery to the front and a bell opening
in the side, with ogival moulded surround; and on each side a
moulded stone doorway into the aisles, that to the left with a
niche above containing a statue and that to the right with an
oculus above. The aisles have square-headed 2-light windows
and the nave has large segmental-pointed windows with
Perpendicular tracery. Five-light "east" window to chancel.
Interior (as reported 20.06.88): pink sandstone
hollow-chamfered arcades on octagonal piers without capitals;
open-truss roof; wooden reredos; low stone wall to chancel
with built-in wooden pulpit; stone font; neo-Gothic pews.
