House, now flats. c1820-50. Ashlar over brick with stucco to
rear and concealed roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and basement, 7 first-floor windows,
arranged 2:3:2, the central 3 being set back over the
projecting porte-cochere on the ground floor, and with two
2-storey, 2-window blocks to left. First-floor band,
first-floor continuous sill band; cornice and blocking course;
tooled architraves to windows. 6/6 sashes throughout, taller
to ground floor and with aprons. Porte-cochere has 3
round-arched openings, 2 with casement with fanlights,
entrance a 4-panel round-arched door to right, imposts,
keystones and tooled arch to heads; cornice and low parapet.
Side elevation in similar style, 3:2; the right hand part
projecting slightly. Ranges to left have 6/6 sashes to ground
floor and 3/6 sashes to first floor, cornice and blocking
course. Right return has 5 first-floor windows with similar
fenestration. Rear: mainly 6/6 sashes in tooled architraves,
to ground floor are some tall 9/9 sashes in tooled
architraves; staircase window a 9/9 sash with radial glazing
to head.
INTERIOR: reputed to retain original features including fine
original marble chimney piece in one room with sculptured
female figures to the jambs; panelled shutters to windows.
The house is a prominent feature of the open space here.
