GV II
Includes: No.8 GRIMSHAW STREET.
Four town houses in terraced row lining west side of street,
with return to Grimshaw Street (No.8); now variously
integrated as offices. Probably 1849; altered. Coursed squared
sandstone, slate roof hipped at the corner to the left.
Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted except No.13
which appears to have been double-fronted.
3 storeys over cellars, 1+2+1+1 windows; doorways of Nos 11 &
13 to the right (now altered as windows), doorway of No.13A in
the centre, and another doorway to the left, all with plain
jambs and lintels, and shallow moulded cornices; cellar
windows blocked with glass bricks; all other windows with
plain surrounds and altered glazing. No.8 Grimshaw Street,
which is the returned end to the south, a single-window
facade, is similar but has sillbands to the upper floors, a
doorway to the left with pilaster jambs, frieze, cornice and
remains of a pedimental blocking course, and a recessed
panelled door up 2 steps, and an altered (now coupled) window
at ground floor. INTERIORS not inspected.
Forms a group with the latter, and with Nos 5, 7 & 9 Nicholas
Street (qv), the whole being a good example of "late Georgian"
town housing.
