Terraced row of 6 shops. 1876. By Virgil Anderton of Padiham;
altered. Coursed squared sandstone with freestone dressings
and slate roof. Venetian style. Rectangular plan parallel to
street laterally partitioned into 6 narrow units.
3 storeys and 6 bays, divided by superimposed orders of
panelled pilasters (the upper with crocketed caps), with
fascia bands (all altered or concealed) over the ground floor
and a plain frieze and moulded cornice over each upper floor.
The ground floor has C20 shop fronts; the 1st and 2nd floors
have coupled windows (except the 1st floor of No.4 at the left
end which has an unsympathetic C20 window), those at 1st floor
round-headed and those at 2nd floor segmental-headed, all with
keyed architraves which include prominent sills on carved
brackets and panelled pilaster jambs (those at 1st floor with
crocketed caps), and mostly sashed without glazing bars
(altered glazing at Nos 12 & 14).
