The Pent House

GV II

Pair of small merchants' houses or tenements of cottages, now
1 house. Probably C17. Rubble walls except for deep-projecting
1st floor which is render on probable timber frame; dry slate
roof; brick end stacks. Originally a U-shaped plan with near
central through passage giving access to narrow courtyard
between deep rear wings.
2 storeys; 3-window range. C20 leaded casements to 1st floor
which is carried on a timber bressumer over a colonnade of 5
unevenly spaced square rubble columns or piers. The
ground-floor front set back to rear of pavement has 4 window
openings of varied sizes with C20 windows and there is a
doorway left of centre with a C20 door.
INTERIOR: not inspected but former list description notes
crude C17 1st-floor fireplace with chamfered jambs and corbels
to a slate lintel.
