Farmhouse and barn. C16, remodelled and extended 1850-1 by George Devey C16 part
weatherboarded with tile roofs, half-hipped to barn; brick axial stack; 1850-1
extension half timbered with plaster infill, steep tile roof and brick stack with
diagonally-set flues. C16 barn incorporating part of farmhouse at east end, with
1850-1 extension set at right angles to east. Vernacular Revival style. Two storey
gabled front of 1850-1 extension has carved bargeboards, ornamental framing and
jettied first floor with 3-light window set over porch with fluted round posts and
plank door set in arched frame. Attached barn has C20 casements (to farmhouse) to
left of central plank double doors; lean - to roof to outshots swept around front,
sides and rear of right end of barn. Interior not inspected. Part of a picturesque
group of exceptional importance, one of the earliest works of George Devey whose
vernacular revival worK marked "a milestone in nineteenth century architecture"
(M Girovard, The Victorian Country House); these buildings are also notable for the
combination of the picturesque style with a farmstead which is remarkably advanced
for its date.

2.
Mid C19 east extension to C16 building, part of which is now the 2-bay western
part of the farmhouse while the other part is a barn. The picturesque C19 part
is half timbered with plaster filling, has steep tiled roof and overhanging
1st floor on fluted round posts. The C16 part is weatherboarded with tiled
roofs, as is its continuation into the barn. Barn has fairly close set timbers
and queen post roof trusses. Brick and stone foundation. Lean-to front projection
at right continues around west end. Aisle and hipped porch to left. This range
is part of a deep, U-shaped range of farm buildings of immense picturesqueness,
probably by George Devey.

South Park Farmhouse and attached barn, Range of buildings at East end of farmyard
and shelter sheds on North side of Farmyard form a group.
