House, formerly 2 or 3 cottages. Late C17, extended in C18, modernised 1983-4.
Plastered cob on rubble footings; cob or rubble stacks with C19 brick tops;
thatched roof. Gable-ended range facing south-east comprising 1 room cottages with
end stacks and unheated room of uncertain function between. 2 storeys. Overall 5-
window front of C19 and C20 wooden casements. Left and centre room have regular
fenestration, 2 windows each. Doors originally on right side but only centre room
door remains with C20 porch. Alternate first floor windows rise into eaves. Eaves
level drops to right room which is recessed slightly from main front and includes a
C19 3-light casement to right of doorway now blocked with C20 casement. First
floor C19 casement rises into eaves. Right gable end has massive projecting stack
with slate-roofed oven projection, and at first floor level tiny, triangular headed
wooden light to right of stack and to left small late C17 wooden 3-light chamfered
mullion window with internal flat faces and beaded edges.
Interior shows that right cottage is late C17 containing chamfered cross beam with
straight cut stops and a side-pegged jointed cruck roof truss. Massive fireplace
is blocked. Plain carpentry detail to centre and left room. Large end fireplace
exposed; granite and rubble with oak lintel and cloam oven to right.
