2 houses, now united. Late C17/early C18 with alterations. Sandstone rubble
with rubble plinth and very large quoins; roof of graduated Lakeland slate with
yellow brick chimney. 2 storeys, 3 bays. C20 door and side lights inserted in
place of paired central doors, with irregular outer jambs and concrete lintel.
Flanking short, wide margined sashes, with rendered lintel at left and stone
lintel at right; first floor has 2-light horizontal sliding sash at left, right
a 3-light horizontal sliding sash with some glazing bars, under eaves. Left
end chimney. Interior shows very thick walls; deep splays to window reveals
except in part of one window on ground floor; plain stone fire lintel and jambs
in ground-floor right room, and low stone lintel to fire in room above with
brick jambs and hood: flues to left chimney of Wheldon House adjacent (q.v.).
Large irregular oak beam along centre of entrance passage has wide dowel holes;
similar beam over door.
Rear extension not of interest.
