Farmhouse. Circa early C17, extended in C20. Roughcast timber frame. Hipped
plain tile roof with gable end to rear wing. Roughcast brick axial stack.
PLAN:3-room plan; parlour on left (S) in cross-wing with projects at rear
only and hall at centre, both heated from back to back fireplaces in axial
stack; smaller unheated room to right (N) end, now with C19 stack on north
end wall. A partition has been inserted across the back of the parlour to
create a stairhall in the rear wing and a C20 single storey outshut has been
built behind the remainder of the house. EXTERIOR:2 storeys. Asymmetrical
1:3 window east front. Large C20 3-light casements and C20 gabled porch to
left of centre. C20 conservatory on south end. At rear (west) projecting
gabled cross-wing on right and single storey outshut on left; C20 casements.
INTERIOR:Hall has exposed close studding, jowled posts, chamfered rail,
ovolo-moulded axial beam with concave stops and rebuilt Tudor arch brick
fireplace. Parlour in left hand(S) cross-wing has intersecting ceiling beams
with roll moulded arrises, cyma moulded cornice, C20 fireplace and C18
2-panel doors. C20 staircase in back of cross-wing. Right hand (N) room has
exposed jowled posts, chamfered wall-plate and tie beams and chamfered axial
beams. Original 4-bay roof over main range and 3-bays over cross-wing with
large cambered collars, clasped side purlins and curved wind-braces.
Originally attic chambers, main stack has fireplace with unchamfered timber
lintel.
