House, c.1530 with alterations of late C16 and C17. Originally a 2-cell
house with cross-entry, and a smoke-bay at the right-hand gable. A 3rd cell
may have existed on the site of a new parlour cell added in C17. 2 storeys.
Timber-framed and plastered. Roman pantiled roof, once thatched, with axial
C17 chimney of red brick. Mid C20 small-pane casements and boarded entrance
door. The 2-bay hall has steeply-cambered and (unusually) shoulded tie-beams
at open and closed trusses. Studwork full-height with arch wind-braces;
evidence for cross-entry doorways with arched heads. Complete lightly smoke-
blackened coupled-rafter roof; the half-hip at the service end is encapsulated
in the later structure. A depleted but original smoke-bay at the right hand
end of the hall has heavy smoke encrustation. The service cell has large
unchamfered floor joists, and in the hall are good chamfered first floor
joists. A lintelled open C16/C17 fireplace stands within the smoke bay. Mid
C20 extensions to left and to rear.
