This Edward Watson was secretary to three successive Bishops of Lincoln and he married Emme the niece of Bishop Smith. Her effigy is placed by his side and on the slab the figures of their 15 children. Edward resided in Lyddington where he died in 1530 leaving in his Will a bequest to found a Chantry in this Church. His eldest son was placed in a monastery; the second his heir, secured on a lease from King Henry VIII the royal hunting residence at Rockingham Castle which eventually passed altogether to the Watson family.
