Description

WESTONBIRT WITH THE STREET, Westonbirt
ST 88 NE
LASBOROUGH (north side)
10/194 Nos 27 and 29
GV II

Two adjoining cottages. Probably c1854-6 by Lewis Vulliamy as
part of the moving and rebuilding of Westonbirt Village by Robert
Stayner Holford in preparation for construction of Westonbirt House
(q.v.). Coursed stone, stone slate roof, stone end and ridge
stacks. Single range of single storey and attic, originally a
symmetrical composition, but now with single-storey bay of C20 to
left hand return of No 27, and small added canted bay. Four
gables, smaller in centre, all with decorative barge boards, with
2/1/1/2-light stone mullions with leaded casements and square
hoodmould. Beneath larger gables are projecting gabled porches
with similar barge boards and chamfered Tudor arches with original
plank inner door to No 29. Two-light to left of porch on No 29;
bay on No 27 modelled on original bay of No 11 (q.v.). Although
slightly altered these cottages are important as part of the
rebuilt village group including Nos 7-25 (odd), (q.v.).
