7/162 Former coach house to
former Estcourt House
GV II
Former coach house, now mainly stables. Probably c1781,
contemporary with main stable block opposite (q.v.). Coursed and
dressed stone on plinth with flush quoins, stone slate roof with
coped verges. Single main range with rear lean-to, probably
slightly later, with slate roof and 5 stable bays. Front has 6
large chamfered basket arches with even voussoirs, the central four
probably with their original shaped double timber doors, and the
end 2 with recessed infilled stone with plank door and open 5-light
transom light. End bays still stables with original cobbled floor
and wooden feeding rack to rear. Cambered head window with
similar loft door over ends. Along with the main stable block,
this is the only surviving formal building from the original
Estcourt House estate, now demolished.
