Terraced town house. c. 1731-32 by Henry Flitcroft. Brown brick,
slate roof. 4 storeys (the attic early C19) and basement. 4
windows wide. Entrance in 2nd bay from left: moulded stone architrave
with narrow flanking jambs and scrolled consoles to cornice hood.
Recessed sash windows, no glazing bars, under flat gauged arches. Plat
band over ground floor and moulded stone cornice over 2nd floor;
parapet with coping. Early C19 cast iron area railings. There is
a close affinity between this front and that of Nos 9 to 10 St.
James's Square by Flitcroft and the builder Benjamin Timbrell.
The interior if altered retains a number of fine features, probably
to Flitcroft designs, front hall with passage past service stair to
main stairs at back and closet beyond. 2 storey stair compartment,
stone with fine wrought iron open work "baluster" pattern balusters
closely resembling that of No 46 Berkeley Square. Principal
surviving decoration is to the ground floor front room with
enriched panelling and window and door architraves,of particular note
the carving of the central doorcase and mask of Aurora with drapery
festooned above it, etc.
