Flanking forecourt wings of Melbourne House, 1771-76, by Sir
William Chambers. Brown brick, slate roof. Each wing of 2
storeys and basement. 9 bays wide with centre 3 bays slightly
advanced and pedimented. Central doorways to each group of 3
bays, with stone doorcases, pulvinated friezes and pediments.
Revealed sash windows, no glazing bars, under flat gauged arches.
Ground floor stone sill band and stone band cornice below
parapet with coping. Part of rare surviving enclave of town
mansion, converted and extended as apartments by Henry Holland
in 1802-03.
