Lodge at south end of ride through grounds of Newark Park and
gatepiers leading to ride. Probably 1790s by James Wyatt.
Roughcast faced on chamfered stone plinth to front, hipped slate
roof, lateral stone stacks with 2 polygonal flues with moulded caps
to left, one only to right, the other being C20 rendered square
section flue. Small square range of 2 storeys. Three windows,
3/2/3-light stone mullions, latticed pointed arched lights with
square hoodmould. Ground floor has two 3-light flanking central
projecting castellated square porch with square hoodmould as base
of castellations at front and returning at sides as dripmould over
small pointed arch hollow moulded single light on each side wall.
Outer Tudor archway, inner door of 6 fielded panels with shallow
radial fanlight. Mullions and archway all hollow moulded.
Internal shutters remain. Interior not accessible but may be of
interest. Pair of square gatepiers with additional outer half
pier linked to house on left and estate wall on right, with 2
single pedestrian gates and one centre double gate, all simple 2
tier wrought iron work. Piers in alternating chamfered
rustication and vermiculated blocks with fluted frieze above roll
moulding and flattened pyramidal caps. The whole about 3m high.
