Formerly a scheduled monument. C14 building, altered in the C15 and since. Two
storeys. Three windows. Stone rubble. Tiled roof. Modern obtusely-pointed
two-light windows. Stone doorway. Blocked doorway at west end. Three niches
over, two pointed, one square-headed, with the remains of a cartouche. Four
corbel brackets. Gable end east and west. The west one has the blocked head
of an entrance to the basement. The east one has a window splayed outwards with
three iron grilles, also a C13 doorway reset. C15 crown-post inside. The building
was used as the Town Hall from 1557 onwards and the Mayor of Winchelsea is still
elected there annually. The first floor is used as a museum.
