4/71 Hamper's Bridge.
II
Bridge over stream: dated 1751 but parapets rebuilt later.
Hammer-dressed buff sandstone. Single, tall, elliptical arch with
projecting course above. Plain parapet with chamfered coping and
plain iron railings which extends over angled rubble wing revetment
walls. Date on keystone but most of the other stones bear carved
numbers up to 7 some on at least 2 faces. These seem to relate to the
dressing of the stones not to a reconstruction and can be seen
elsewhere in the gardens, particularly in the West Terrace Walls
(q.v.).
