Barn. Probably C16 with C18 alterations. Cruck-framed with sandstone
rubble walls and shingle roof. West wall has breathers, a cart entrance
under a canopy with cheeks, and a wider shippon end towards the right
with doorway. Towards the left is an addition which has a wide doorway
with plain reveals. Projecting from the east side is a shippon wing,
probably early C18. Its north and south walls both have 3 chamfered
doorways on the ground floor and 3 pitching eyes with plain stone
surrounds above. The east gable has 3 pitching eyes and a pair of blocked
doorways to the upper level which have chamfered surrounds and canted
heads. They are reached by external stone steps. Interior: 7 bays. End
cruck trusses, now internal, are closed with blades terminating at
collars: the original roof was probably thatched and half-hipped. The
other crucks are joined by yokes below the apex and have collars. Some
wallposts remain, joined to the blades by spurs. At the junction with the
rear shippon wing part of the original timber-framed walling remains,
including 2 doorheads. The 1st floor has been removed from the rear wing,
which has 2 bolted king-post trusses.
